GA Ready
Flight Standards is pleased to offer a unique training package tailored to suit those who intend to make this region the start point for their career or who would like some experience on a relevant aircraft type. The GA Ready course is offered exclusively in the Darwin region (right where the professional journey begins for many new Commercial Pilots).
The course is conducted full-time over 2 weeks & includes the following training, presented in a commercial aviation context:
Cessna 210 Type Familiarisation – with minimum of 5 hours on type achieved during the course (plus there are no additional charges if more hours are achieved in the course!!);
Remote / Unsealed Airfield operations – including an “overnight” on a simulated charter operation;
Land & Hold Short Operations (LAHSO) training – a qualification necessary for efficient operations at Darwin International Airport & attractive to prospective employers;
Darwin airspace familiarisation training – including a visit to Darwin ATC;
General Emergency Training (formerly CAO 20.11) including Wet Drills (life jacket training); &
Customer Service Training delivered in the context of GA operations.
In addition to the specific training above, pilots on this course will also receive guidance on other useful skills such as drum refueling & how to best present for potential employers when seeking that elusive first job (how to prepare a resume, how to present for interview & likely interview topics).
Candidates are also offered opportunity to visit the local CASA office to meet with local Flight Operations Inspectors (FOIs), Airworthiness Inspectors (AWIs) & educational officers to gain better awareness of the role of the regulator in the local aviation environment.
Finally, in conjunction with Hardy Aviation, the opportunity to travel in the right seat of an RPT service will provide an invaluable insight to the job of an on-line GA pilot.
The flight training is delivered by our team of instructors all of whom have extensive charter experience in the Top End. Our course is the original! We teach you what you need to know that others can’t & we teach it right where you need to be to make the right contacts. In fact, the aircraft you will fly on this course will have been provided by one of the operators that you will be seeking a job from!
The all-inclusive price includes one night accommodation away from Darwin during the course & all notes / training materials. Course pre-requisites (except by prior agreement): Commercial Pilot Licence (Aeroplane), RU, MPPC. Recent flying practice is recommended.
* LAHSO qualification dependent on satisfying competency requirements & availability of LAHSO at Darwin Airport (YPDN).
Coming from New Zealand?
Your CAA NZ Commercial Pilot Licence can be recognised in Australia under the Trans-Tasman Mutual Recognition Act (TTMRA). Before flying as pilot in command here you’ll need a flight review. Many Kiwi pilots do theirs with us in Darwin, then join the GA Ready Course. Our New Zealand TTMRA conversion guide covers each step. Start early, as CASA can take up to a month just to post your licence to New Zealand & an ASIC takes over a month once you arrive.
