If you are looking to start your career as a flying instructor, our course is the perfect place to start. Flight Standards offers a Flight Instructor Course for the Grade 3 Training Endorsement. This course is delivered with all the passion and dedication that we would expect a prospective flight instructor to bring to their future trainees. A breakdown of the course is as follows:
- Up to 40 hours of dual instruction or assessment in the Cessna 172P or equivalent
- Up to 5 hours dual instruction or assessment in the Cessna 172RG or equivalent
- Up to 5 hours dual instruction in the Synthetic Flight Training Device
- Principles and Methods of Instruction (PMI) Course
- Theory Instruction for the Grade 3, DF, BIF, and CLR SEA flight instructor endorsements
This course “value adds” by building in a few other useful training endorsements that will make our graduates “job ready”. By the end of the course candidates will have:
- Grade 3 Training Endorsement (This allows you to teach students towards the RPL, PPL, and CPL licenses)
- Design Feature Training Endorsement (A useful endorsement that allows you to instruct in more complex aircraft. It also gives you the opportunity for checking and training later on in your career)
- Single engine class rating training (This allows you to conduct flight reviews as a Grade 3)
- BIF Bridging Course (This allows you to teach Basic Instrument Flight. A privilege usually reserved for either night or instrument instructors)
Did you know that the CASR Part 61 rules do not require all Flight Instructors to be able to function within flying schools? Flight Standards also offers tailored courses suited for your needs. Examples of tailored courses we have provided include:
- Design Feature Instructors – a simple Instructor Rating with the Design Feature training endorsement, which has allowed seaplane operators to use their experienced float pilots to train others in this rarely found skill;
- Class Rating Instructors – to deliver Flight Reviews, General Competency training & type familiarisations;
- Multi-Engine Instructors – to enable senior pilots of GA operators to safely deliver type familiarisation training and checking to their staff;
- Type Rating Instructors – for regional airline training & checking staff, or those who would like to grow into this role;
- Instrument Instructors – to enable the development of Type Rating Flight Examiners;
- Low Level Instructors – to develop experienced mustering pilots into mentors for those new to this demanding role;
- Aerobatic / Formation Instructors – great for Aero Clubs and the like, which benefit from members being able to train their friends for the “fun stuff”.
